The MedTech and In-vitro Diagnostic Co-operatives (MICs) were founded by the NIHR to incubate, accelerate and integrate technologies which could help NHS patients. Each MIC covers a specific aspect of healthcare; the MIC focusing on surgical challenges is located in Leeds.

The Surgical MIC provides a platform for innovators attempting to develop technologies which address the unmet needs in colorectal, hepatobiliary and vascular surgery. In 2019 the Surgical MIC will be founding a spoke in Cambridge, seeking to harness the area’s wealth of academic and industry talent to develop new and exciting technologies.

The Cambridge MedTech Foundation is the student and trainee engagement branch of the Cambridge MIC. We are interdisciplinary group of students, trainees and academics from medicine, engineering, computer science, life sciences and business backgrounds. We believe that educating and enthusing the next generation of clinicians, scientists, researchers and industry representatives is vital if we are to improve the translation of technologies for patient benefit.
