“A valuable educational experience for anyone interested in medical innovation.”
The IP is a 4-month educational programme providing both an introduction to the landscape of medical device development and experience of interdisciplinary teamwork. Small teams of students and early career researchers & clinicians work to solve a real-life problem identified by our clinical partners, supported by interactive workshops and small-group mentoring covering approaches to clinical problems, concept generation, effective teamwork, business model development, and pitching. The teams produce an Executive Summary and pitch their ideas to a panel of judges from academia, industry, and clinical practice.

In previous years, teams have worked on problems in the fields of aortic valve replacements, brain surgery, and orthopaedics. You can read more about last year’s programme and see some of the solutions that teams developed:
We work closely with our partners in Cambridge University Hospital’s Clinical Engineering Innovation team, the Cambridge Judge Business School’s Entrepreneurship Centre, and the NIHR Brain Injury MedTech Co-operative, who all help to deliver the Programme.
